ثالثا : الأبحاث الـعـلـمـيـة :
There is increasing evidence that the environment particularly early life environment can influence our future disease risk. In humans a poor intrauterine environment has been associated with an increased risk of a range of non communicable diseases (NCD) in later life. The mechanism by which early life environment can influence future disease risk is beginning to be understood and involve epigenetic processes. Epigenetic processes are defined as processes that induce stable changes in gene activity without a change in gene sequence. The major epigenetic processes being DNA methylation, histone modification and miRNAs. Understanding the effect of early life environment on the epigenetic modifications and its role in the altered gene expression in the offspring, which lead to long term changes in disease risk is now critical both for the identification of individuals at increased risk and the development of intervention strategies to prevent the rapid rise in NCDs. I focused on number of molecular biology techniques such as cell culture and embryonic stem cell culture techniques, drug treatments assays, PCR (RT-PCR and Conventional PCR), methylation- sensitive PCR, methylation analysis by pyrosequencing, cDNA microarray, Immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assay, cloning and luciferase assay, site directed mutagenesis, cDNA preparation, bisulfite conversion of DNA as well as many basic and advance biochemical and molecular biology techniques. Therefore, the following topics are my major research interest;
- Epigenetics and the developmental origins of chronic diseases
- Nutritional Epigenetic and chronic diseases prediction.
- Epigenetic markers and disease prevention.
- Gene-environment interaction
- Epigenetics and drug development
- Epigenetic and Bioinformatics
