Oral Anatomy DLT 101

  • Course Director: Dr. Ra’ed Al-Sadhan
  • Credit Hours: 1 credit hour
  • Didactic: 1 credit hour
  • Duration: 1 semester [0.5 academic year]
  • Sequence: 2nd Level - 1st half only [semester 2 or 5]

Course Description

Introduction

A course in Oral Anatomy is a study of the oral and facial structures.

Dental technician is the one responsible for construction of appliances, which aid the restoration of oral health.  Any improper fabrication of appliances alters the effectiveness of mastication, aesthetics and speech.  In this context undoubtedly, dental technician is an integral part of the dental health team and therefore should possess a basic knowledge of the anatomic structures of the head, face and the mouth.

Objectives

At the completion of the course, the DLT student will be able to:

1. Provide proper definitions or brief description for structures presented in the sections covering Oral Anatomy.
2. Know the functions of the anatomical structures studied.
3. Possess basic knowledge of the biomechanical applications and

implications of the appliances as they relate to various anatomical structures in the head, face and mouth.

Course outline

The course extends over 15 weeks with one weekly lecture of one-hour duration.

The following outline will be used in the delivery of the course:
