 Drug information specialist,Why?

The world today entertains a real information revolution as indicated by the increasing size of scientific library, where the volume of literature is almost double each 22 months.  The major revolution observed was in the biomedical literature which consists of the research papers published in more than 20000 biomedical journals. The net result is that the number of drugs is continuously increasing being about 5700 registered in the Saudi ministry of health files and the information on each expanded to reach the size of text book. Because of that monitoring, retrieving and evaluating the required literature of drugs have become extra burden on the health care practitioners. Survey studies conducted in USA which includes large sample of physicians points to their needs to a source of drug information. In addition there is an increased awareness and acceptance of physicians throughout the world to the role of pharmacist as a source of drug information. Currently, pharmacy schools teach and train their graduates to take the responsibility of disseminating drug information which is now become part of pharmacy profession required by health care regulations
