STUDENTS’  ACTIVITIES                                                    الأنشطة التعليمية للطالبات فى فصولى

Using Technology in Learning                                                   استخدام التكنولوجيا فى التعليم

Dear Students,

I am going to use  Web 2.0 tools to help you to be engaged in active learning by using technology and combining online with face-to-face instruction. Let’s first learn about blended learning. We can use many tools while integrting technolgy into learning.

My Online Classes and Workshops                                 فصولى الالكترونية لدعم تعليم الطالبات

 ورش عمل الكترونية للطالبات

This semester, you will enjoy a new learning experience in my free online classes and workshops. In my online classes, you will have the opportunity to improve your English. I will provide a lot of interesting materials and web links so that you can read, write, speak, and listen in English. You will be able to acquire various language skills which you will need to succeed in your courses. I have designed the online workshops to help you to work on your team projects. In these workshops, you will practice learning by doing.

My Online Reading Lab                                  معملى الالكترونى لدعم برامج القراءة باللغة الانجليزية

You have been using my online Reading Lab since the beginning of this semester and I can see how much you are enjoying it. I learned about two reading software packages when I was attending a conference last year in BaltimoreUSA. I have found the reading software very useful. You have already downloaded it and you have shared it with your peers in other classes. My online reading lab will help you to improve your reading speed and your reading comprehension. I provide some strategies that can help you to read everyday. I also provide reading materials, exercises, worksheets, quizzes, and online tests.

Cooperative Learing                     التعليم التعاونى و المشاريع الجماعية للطالبات

Cooperative learning activities are carefully structured learning activities in which students are held accountable for their individual contributions, and participation. Students are also provided with incentives to work as a team in teaching and learning from each other. I have already discussed
with you the rules of teamwork. You are now developing your team charters and will be ready to start working on your team projects.
What do you learn from a cooperative learning environment?
Instead of emphasizing competitive or individualistic efforts, the focus becomes on
cooperation. The essential components of cooperation, according to Kagan(1992);   Johnson, Johnson, and Holubec, 1993) are:
Positive Interdependence: Students have the opportunity to help each other.

Individual Accountability:
Students learn that they are accountable for their contribution in the project or the area of study through providing their own ideas.

Equal Participation: E
ach student has an equal chance of being called on.

Simultaneous Interaction:
All students are able to provide input into the question rather than just the teacher or a single student explaining their answer.

Classroom Debaes & Discussuions

BRAINSTORMING

It took the American executive, Alex Osborne (1930s) only two words to create a new concept that has changed our approaches to study strategies... BRAINSTORMING!   In what way did he see a connection between BRAIN, which is a mass of nerve tissue in the head that controls the body and makes us able to think and STORM which is various elements of weather consisting of wind, sand, rain, and snow? Because BRAIN is the center of thought, it controls and coordinates our thinking, BRAINSTORMING, thus implies coordinating various elements or ideas that people are able to handle when they think freely and thus produce quickly (speed) numerous ideas including (silly) ones in order to help in moving into (support) new areas of thoughts and then combine ideas (synergy) together so they can make sense in solving any problems.  Osborn experienced that using rules which remove inhibitions, people are able to think and discuss spontaneously any area of interest in such away that new ideas are generated. Thinking becomes like a storm that overflows with all kinds of ‘thoughts’ allowing new solutions to a wide variety of problems. The concept of brainstorming can contribute in our interactions with others. Therefore this term plays an essential role in cooperative learning. In cooperative learning, BRAINSTORMING is a technique to maximize the ability of students to dedicate a short period of time in order to generate a large number of ideas regardless of their worth.

Although BRAINSTORMING may seem to be a technique free of instructions, it has to be conducted through rules that help in producing effective results. We can summarize these rules as follows:

Rules of BRAINSTORMING

Rule 1: Postpone judgment of ideas
Rule 2:  Encourage free ideas
Rule 4: Build on ideas put forward by others
Rule 3: Believe that every idea has equal worth
Rule 4: Write down the ideas on paper or index cards
Rule 5: Ask for clarification
Rule 6: Encourage respect and humor
