Dr. Magda Al Sebai At Harvard University
Magda participated in the conference that took place at Harvard University, Graduate School of
Education, in July 2009. Magda's doctoral dissertation was about using the theory of Multiple
Intelligences for Improving English language acquisition. Professor Howard Gardner of Harvard
University developed the theory of Multiple Intelligences in the1980s and has continued his studies on
human intelligence and cognitive scienes since then and up-to-date.
Magda’s doctoral research included studies and analysis of a wide number of linguistics and
cognitive theories of the past 80 years including Sapir (1921), Bloomfield (1933),
Chomsky (1957), Firth (1957), Piaget (1964), Pike (1971), Vygotsky
(1973), Krashen (1981), Halliday (1985), Oxford (2004), Chaika (2007), Splosky (2008).
Chamot (2007), among others.
The theory of Multiple Intelligences was developed by Dr. Howard Gardner,
Professor of education and cognitive sciences at Harvard University. The University of
Harvard Conference targeted classroom practices, instructional materials, and out of
classroom learning environments. The leaders of Project Zero and Smart School
include Professor Nelson Goodman, Professor Steve Seidel , and Professor
David Perkins.
More than 300 participants attended the conference. The Conference
included mini-courses of 10–45 people, and small study
groups of 20 participants.
The participants had numerous opportunities to speak with faculty and colleagues
from around the world. The Plenary sessions highlighted studies presented by Howard
Gardner, David Perkins, Steve Seidel and other senior staff.
Magda obtained a new membership from Harvard Institute of Summer Studies.
