104 English Course Specification

 

Main Learning Outcomes

 

§   Students will be able to read a wide range of texts in their field of specialization

to build an understanding of texts, acquire new information, and respond to the

needs and demands of society and the workplace.

§     Students will read to conduct research on issues related to their field

of specialization by generating ideas and questions.

§     Students will be able to enhance their critical and analytical thinking skills. 

§     Students will be able to communicate in bilingual and multi-cultural situations.

§     Students will be able to use different relevant textbooks and online materials.

§     Students will use a variety of information resources (e.g., libraries,

databases, computer networks, and video) to gather and synthesize information

and to create and communicate knowledge.
 

§     Students will use English to communicate fluently.

§     Students will use grammatical rules to construct meaningful paragraphs.

§     Students will take notes while listening to various discussions on topics related 

   to their field of specialization.

 

§    Students will use technology to enhance learning, increase productivity, and

promote critical and creative thinking.

§     Students will be able to work individually and collaboratively to conduct a

research for their final projects.

§     Students will be able to use a variety of media presentation to present their  

  projects in the classroom.

§     Students will be able to respond to their teacher’s and peers questions.

§     Students will be able to use the knowledge they will gain from this course in

real life.

§   Using the Laptop to create databases and store numerical information.

  • Using the Internet to collect statistical data.

  • Using Microsoft Office( e.g. Excel, Microsoft Access , front page to analyze data and

    prepare statistical reports.

  • Demonstrating effective listening skills.

  • Encouraging students to communicate in English using appropriate linguistic skills.

 

Psychomotor Skills

The main focus is on learning by doing through engaging students in using their personal
portable and the College lab to work on their team projects as a way to compensate the
lack of class equipment

§   Reading a variety of texts  on computer and information technology.

§   Involving students in problem-based and project-based activities.

§   Enhancing some thinking strategies through using brain storming sessions.

§   Discussing and criticizing the topics of the textbook and external reading.

§   Presenting the external reading texts in the class and responding to 

comprehension questions.

§   Summarizing the main ideas of the reading texts.

§   Writing reflective paragraphs on the reading texts.
