102 Course Specification

Main Learning Outcomes

§         Students will be able to read a wide range of texts in their field of specialization to build an understanding of texts.

§         Students will read to conduct research on issues related to their field of specialization by generating ideas and questions.

§         Students will gather, evaluate, and synthesize data from a variety of sources.

§         Students will use a variety of information resources (e.g., libraries, databases, and computer networks) to gather and synthesize information, and communicate knowledge.

§         Students will write fluently for a variety of purposes and audiences, employing appropriate formats.

§         Students will use grammatical rules to construct meaningful sentences and paragraphs on various topics in the field of computer sciences.  

§         Students will take notes while listening to various conversations and discussions on topics related to their field of specialization.

§         Students will use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote critical and creative thinking.

§         Students will be able to work individually and collaboratively to conduct a research for their final projects.

§         Students will be able to use a variety of media presentation to present their projects in the classroom.

§         Students will be able to use English fluently in real life.

 

 

Developing Learning Outcomes 

Knowledge

§    Collecting information on current research conducted in the field of computer sciences.

§    Knowledge on using English to analyze and synthesize the information of the textbooks

and other sources of knowledge.

  • Understanding the reading passages and interpreting the main ideas of the texts.
  • Collecting information and responding to comprehension questions. 
     
  • Understanding the procedures of computer applications.

§    Understanding the grammatical rules of the foreign language and applying them in the

writing assignments.

  • Understanding the concepts of the technical and scientific terminology and using them

    accurately.

Interpersonal Skills  

 

  • Communicating personal ideas and thoughts.

  • Writing a short reflective paper that relates key concepts of the discipline to students’

    personal experience.

  • Developing teamwork skills.

  • Collaborating to finish team assignments. 

 

Communication, Information Technology, and Numerical Skills

 

  • The essential components of communication skills  are based on developing critical

    skills, observation, feedback, online video or audio recording and review, rehearsal

    and practice of skills, and active small-group or one-on-one learning.

§   Using the laptop to create databases and store numerical information.

  • Using the Internet to collect statistical data.

  • Using Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Microsoft Access, Front Page to analyze data and

    prepare statistical reports.

  • Demonstrating effective listening skills.

  • Encouraging students to communicate in English using appropriate linguistic skills.

  • Encouraging students to express their own ideas.  

 

Psychomotor Skills

The main focus is on learning by doing through engaging students in using their personal portable computers and the College lab to work on their team projects as a way to compensate the lack of class equipment

 

Teaching Strategies

 

Teaching Strategies to Develop Knowledge

§     Reading a variety of texts on computer and information technology.

§     Involving students in problem-based and project-based activities.

§     Enhancing the thinking strategies through using brain storming sessions while discussing

the topics of the textbook and external reading.

§     Using various databases and sources such as Journals and computer magazines to

prepare team projects.

§     Presenting the findings of the team projects in the classroom. 

 

Teaching Strategies to Develop Cognitive Skills

 

  • Making connections between different concepts across the learning domains.

§     Using charts and concept maps 

  • Framing some research questions that can be answered through collecting and

    analyzing data. 
     
  • Synthesizing the information that students collect and summarizing their own findings.

  • Using the Internet to create learning activities.

§     Mini seminars prepared by the students to present team projects.
