Course Objective:

  1. The Listening component of this course aims at training students to understand recorded audio-visual materials of more complex texture and structure than previously taught.
  2. These materials will be in the form of conversations, lectures or texts dealing with different topics of interest as they appear in the assigned textbook.
  3. An attempt is made to introduce students to certain idioms and idiomatic expressions.
  4. Particular attention is given to training students to infer the meaning through a study of context with more emphasis on intonation and tone of speech.

  1. Taking notes on specific information
  2. Inferring main ideas
  3. Identifying stated illocutionary forces
  4. Inferring illocutionary forces
  5. Following instructions
  6. Writing an outline
  7. Producing a summary
  8. Retention of information
  9. Retrieval of information

Required Text:

  1. Mosaic 1 Listening/ Speaking (4th edition) by jami Hanreddy & Elizabeth Whalley

Content to be Covered:

Chapters 1/ 2/ 3/ 4/ 5/ 6/ 7/ 8 

Division of Grades

  1. 25  % points assigned to the 1st midterm
  2. 25 % points assigned to the 2nd midterm
  3. 50 %  on final examination

Total = 100 %

Exams Date:

  • First mid-term is due to occur on week six (21/3/1429 – 25/3/1429) (March 29th, 2008 – April 2nd, 2008)
  • Second mid-term exam is due to occur on week twelve (12/5/1429 – 16/5/1429) (May 17th, 2008 – May 21st, 2008)    

General Instruction:

  1. Be on time
  2. Turn your mobile on the silent mode
  3. Be precise, direct & organized when you answer in your exam sheets.
  4. Make sure that your answers in your exams are free from any grammatical or spelling mistakes (marks are deducted on such mistakes)
  5. Use the blue pen only on your exams. I do not correct answers written in pencil or any other color.

 

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY

Do not miss any of your exams. There will be no make up exams unless you have an accepted medical report from a government hospital.
