Medical Translation
Summary of the main learning outcomes for students enrolled in the course.
· Developing advanced translation skills and receiving practical training in medical texts covering major branches of the field.
· Equipping students with the practical translation skills if texts in different medical fields.
· Equipping students with some of the most commonly used medical terms, thus lessening their need for the dictionary.
· Helping students to translate with a reasonable speed.
Course Description
In this course different skills are gained simultaneously. Knowledge of how most medical terms are formed (roots, combining forms, prefixes and suffixes) is started with. Translation texts are done in class. Here great emphasis is given to text analysis, to speed, to accuracy, to clarity, and to faithfulness to the original text.
