OBJECTIVES:
Ability to use and understand the operation of automated units in a clinical laboratory and ability to maintain and calibrate them.
DESCRIPTION:
Introduction to automation as applied to clinical laboratory principles and operation of automated clinical laboratory instruments, using a continuous flow system, discrete sample system, analytical pack analyzers and centrifugal parallel analyzers. Discussion of operation, maintenance and calibration of some generic automated clinical instruments such as SMA ACA, ROTO-CHEM, VICKER'S multi-channel, Coulter's counter, its principle of operation and construction, maintenance and calibration.
Practical:
practical (lab) constitutes 25% of the course. Students are evaluated in practical classes according to attendance, lab reports, final reports (research) and presentation.
