My Philosophy of  Teaching

By
Ibrahim Salem

The continuous process of forming and following a personal teaching philosophy has been a dynamic one and it has taken about 15 years to (re)shape. Such an educational philosophy is reckons essentially on providing realistic learning experience so as to develop the students’ inner being and shape his outer character. I believe that each learner deserves intrinsically rewarding experiences that contribute to his personal growth. My instructional strategies aim at using oral and written communication in life-like contexts – with the help of multimedia and other advanced technology available in Quwayiyah Community College- to provide a wide  variety of presentation and stimulating intrinsic motivation for the learners.

Since the approaches of educational goals develop and change with time, it has been proved necessary for me to adopt a flexible attitude about adopting new approaches of educational goals and to modifying my teaching methods. This has, eventually, enabled me to acquire appropriate strategies for each learning environment. And because there are various ways through which people learn, there have been different philosophies for handling each educational setting. Each philosophy offered guiding principles and directing action plans. Some philosophies deal with humans’ interactions and with their external environments, others explain humans’ understanding of their inner minds. However, what is common is that they all help me (re)shape my own philosophy towards teaching English as a foreign language for Arab learners.
