Course Title : Socio-cultural Variation in Health (3)

Course Overview
An examination of the socio-cultural process influencing the behavior pattern of individuals, families and larger social network. Student will be provided with the opportunity to assess and recognize adaptive and maladaptive behavior pattern in their socio-cultural context.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, the student will be able to:
1- Develop a theoretical base for using concepts and values relevant to socio-cultural variations in health for nursing practice.
2- Explore the effect of different social systems on the health of individuals and families.
3- Analyze major concerns and issues encountered by nurses in providing Trans- cultural nursing care to individuals, families and groups.
4- Comprehend the cultural influences on human behavior as regard to health and illness.
Course Requirements
The course content will be presented by the use of lecture, discussion and students small group work. Each student will be expected to submit a written assignment investigating a chosen cultural concept.

Course Title: Community Health Nursing
Pre-Requisite: NUR 363

Course Overview:
This course provides theory and practice essential to the application of nursing process to the individual, family and community health patterns and needs. Emphasis is geared on the promotion of health, prevention of disease and rehabilitation based on the concept of health illness continuum. This will enable the student to recognize major disruption of health in a variety of community settings, homes and mental health institutions.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, student should be able to:
1. Explore essential concepts used in community health nursing.
2. Synthesize and develop skills of communication, problem solving and decision making.
3. Develop an awareness of community resources such as school health, handicapped institutions, geriatric services and mental retardation institution.
4. Understand the importance of the roles of the community health nurse in different community settings.
Course Requirements:
This course will be taught by using lectures, discussion and small group discussion, practical application and field trips. Each student will be expected to present two assignments reports for field trips and three problem solving situations related to the course content. The time for presentation of assignments will be planned with target members i different community settings. Practical experience will be take place in community health nursing institutions

Course Title : Concepts of Psycho-Social Nursing

Course Overview:
The course focuses on the study of common problems of the severely and chronically
mentally disabled people including the physical, psychological and socio-economic issues
of care. The relationships between changes relevant to the illness process and
those which can be attributed to long term institutionalization are addressed.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, the students should be able to:
1- Analyze the concepts of health, illness, and health care from a psychosocial
perspective.
2- Compare and contrast various care issues relevant to the management of severely
and chronically mentally ill people.
3- Understand the basic concepts of person, environment, and person-environment
interaction process.
4- Appreciate the importance of therapeutic communication in dealing with people
having mental health problems.
5- Comprehend basic psychosocial concepts as they relate to nursing practice.
Course Requirements:
Lecture and group discussions will be used as methods of teaching to this course.
Each student will be expected to present one assignment related to the course content.
