Course Title : Concepts of Psycho-Social Nursing
Faculty : Dr. Mona Talat El-Nady
Course Overview:
The course focuses on the study of common problems of the severely and chronically
mentally disabled people including the physical, psychological and socio-economic issues
of care. The relationships between changes relevant to the illness process and
those which can be attributed to long term institutionalization are addressed.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, the students should be able to:
1- Analyze the concepts of health, illness, and health care from a psychosocial
perspective.
2- Compare and contrast various care issues relevant to the management of severely
and chronically mentally ill people.
3- Understand the basic concepts of person, environment, and person-environment
interaction process.
4- Appreciate the importance of therapeutic communication in dealing with people
having mental health problems.
5- Comprehend basic psychosocial concepts as they relate to nursing practice.
Course Requirements:
Lecture and group discussions will be used as methods of teaching to this course.
Each student will be expected to present one assignment related to the course content.
