Course Title : Concepts of Psycho-Social Nursing
Number of Units : 2 Units ( Theory)
Course Overview:
The course focuses on the study of common problems of the severely and chronically mentally ill people. It also focuses on the physical, psychological and socio-economical issues of care. The relationship between changes relevant to the illness process and those which can be attributed to long term institutionalization are addressed.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, the students are expected to:
1- Analyze the concepts of health, illness, and health care from a psychosocial perspective.
2- Compare and contrast various care issues relevant to the management of severely and chronically mentally ill people.
3- Understand the basic concepts of person, environment, and person-environment interaction process.
4- Appreciate the importance of therapeutic communication in dealing with people having mental health problems.
5- Comprehend basic psychosocial concepts as they relate to nursing practice.
Course Requirements:
Lecture and group discussions will be used as a methods of teaching. Each student will be expected to present one assignment related to the course content.
