Purpose
This course is designed to provide the student basic knowledge from biological, behavioral and medical sciences for understanding the development, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of cancer. This focuses on the assessment and special physical and psychosocial problems of the patients. The clinical practice provides the opportunity for the student to perform a holistic health assessment, diagnosis, and participation in the nursing management of persons with varies types of malignancies.
Course objectives
At the completion of the course the student will be able to:
1- Analyze pathogenesis and etiology of cancer
2- Perform general aspects of cancer detection and diagnostic procedure.
3- Formulate treatment modalities and nursing care principles.
4- Evaluate the psychosocial aspects of cancer patient and family members
5- Collaborate with a holistic multidisciplinary approach to achieve shared health care goals
6- Discuss research findings related to the management of cancer patient with health problem due to side effect of different methods of treatment
7- Demonstrate critical thinking and analytical skills when formulating diagnosis and plans of care acutely/ critically ill client selected health problems.
