Chapters to be covered: 1 to 7.

 

B. Objectives

 The course aims at providing pre-intermediate students with knowledge of the basic structures of English in context. Verb tenses are given pre-eminence as one of the objectives of the course is to enable students to express themselves confidently while making clear and appropriate time reference to the past, present and future. The course also covers nouns, definite and indefinite articles, pronouns, adjectives and adverbs. The student is trained to identify simple sentences, simple sentence types. He is also taught their uses and their forms in the affirmative, negative, interrogative, and imperative. The course is expected to contribute to students’ accuracy in speaking and writing. It also aims at helping students read and listen without experiencing many grammatical difficulties that may stand as a major obstacle to processing meaning.

Skills: The verb “Be”, the simple present, personal pronouns, possessive adjectives.

Chapter Two: Experiencing Nature

Skills: Use of “There is”, “There are”, Questions with ‘whose’ and possessive nouns, the present continuous tense and non-action verbs, Modal auxiliaries ‘can’, ‘may’, might’ and ‘will’.

Week IV

Consolidation exercises of what was seen in chapters One and Two

Week V

Chapter Three: Living to Eat or eating to Live

Skills: Nouns and expression of quantity, comparisons, Model verbs in requests, offers, and permission.

Week VI

Chapter Four: In the Community

Skills: Future verb forms, Phrasal verbs, Prepositions of place and time, articles.

Week VII

Consolidation exercises of what was seen in Chapters Three, and Four.

1st Midterm Test

Week VIII

Chapter Five: Home

Skills: The simple past tense, “used to”.

Week IX

Chapter V: Home

Skills: Regular verbs, irregular verbs, and connecting words. Consolidation exercises.

Chapter Six: Cultures of the World

Skills: The present perfect tense, superlatives, Comparison with so, too, neither, either

2nd Midterm Test

Week XI

Consolidation exercises.

Week XII

Chapter Seven:  Health

Skills: Verb + Object + Infinitive, Modal verbs: should, ought to, had better, have to, and must.

Weeks XIII and XIV

Consolidation exercises for chapter seven. Revision.

 

Note: Teachers are encouraged to supplement the material in the textbook in use with material from other grammar books. They are also expected to draw students’ attention to the grammatical differences between Arabic and English in an incidental manner. Coordination between teachers of language skills is necessary, so that any common grammar errors are dealt with in the various language courses.

 

2. Course components: each lectures lasts for 50 minutes.

3. Additional Private Study or learning Hours:  The student is expected to study for 50 minutes at home for each lecture he covers at university.

4. Development of Learning Outcomes in Domains of Learning: Every possible learning strategy should be tried in the classroom. The one that yields best results should be adopted in the end.

A  Knowledge

(i)                  Knowledge to be acquired: The aims of the course should be achieved.

(ii)                Teaching strategies: Normally through lectures in class and assignment at home.

     (ii) Method of assessment: two midterms tests should be done for 50% of marks                and a final exam for the other 50 marks.

 

(b) Cognitive Skills

(i) Cognitive skills to be developed: The analytics skills required in doing                    grammatical analysis.

(ii) Teaching Strategies: Explanation and examples are given and practiced in the         classroom.

(iii) Methods of assessment:

C. Interpersonal Skills and Responsibility

1. Students can complete both reading and writing assignment in due time

2. Students can participate in class discussion and think critically.

4. Students have the necessary skills to communicate, listen, negotiate and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses as members of a team.

 

(ii) Methods of assessment of students interpersonal skills and capacity to carry responsibility

1.                                          Active class participation reflects the students ability to keep up with the reading schedule.

2.                                          Performance on midterm and final exams are evidence of the student's ability to recollect and synthesize information.

3.                                          Instructor's assessment of student's performance and seriousness during individual supervision hours.

 

D Communication Information Technology and Numerical Skills

1. Students should be taught how to use journals and data basis

2. Encourage students to make extensive use of material on the web.

 

E. Schedule of Assessment Tasks for students during the Semester

 

Two midterm exams for 40 marks, participation and attendance for 10 marks and a final exam for 50 marks.

الأهداف 

يهدف هذا المقرر إلى تزويد الطالب بقواعد اللغة الهدف وتراكيبها الأساسية من خلال استخدام منهجية تركز على البعد التواصلي الوظيفي وفق المنهج المقرر، بحيث يتعرف الطالب على تركيب الجملة البسيطة وترتيب مكوناتها، مع التركيز على الاسم والفعل.على أن  يدرس الطالب: الاسم وأنواعه، والمعرفة والنكرة، وقواعد الجمع، والضمائر، وأسماء الإشارة، وحروف الجر، والظروف، والأعداد. وأن يدرس الطالب المصادر البسيطة بصيغها في الأزمنة المختلفة، ومن ثم يتعرف على أنواع الجمل البسيطة وأركانها وكيفية استخدامها.

2. مكونات المقرر: تستغرق كل محاضرة 50 دقيقة.

3. الساعات الخاصة أو الساعات التعليمية الإضافية: يُتوقع من الطالب أن يدرس في بيته لمدة 50 دقيقة مقابل كل ساعة يدرسها في الجامعة.

4. تطوير الحصيلة التعليمية في مجالات التعلم: ينبغي تجريب كل استراتيجية تعليم ممكنة في الفصل الدراسي. وينبغي تبني الاستراتيجية التي تفضي إلى أفضل النتائج.

أ. المعرفة:

(أ) المعرفة التي ينبغي اكتسابها: ينبغي تحقيق الهدف من المقرر.

(ب) استراتيجيات التعليم: عادة من خلال المحاضرات في الفصل الدراسي، والواجبات المنزلية.

(ج) أسلوب التقويم: هناك اختباران فصليان لكل واحد 20 درجة، واختبار نهائي 50 درجة، وأخيراً 10 درجات للمشاركة في الفصل والمواظبة والحضور.

ب. المهارات المعرفية:

(أ) المهارات المعرفية التي ينبغي تطويرها: المهارات التحليلية المطلوبة أثناء القيام بالتحليل القواعدي.

(ب) استراتيجيات التدريس: الشرح، والأمثلة المكثفة المطبقة في الفصل الدراسي.

(ج) استراتيجيات التقويم:

(أ) المشاركة في الفصل.

(ب) الاختبارات الفصلية

(ج) العمل الصفي.

 

(ج) المهارات المتعلقة بالتواصل والمسؤولية

(أ)

1.  أن يكون بوسع الطلبة إنهاء كل من واجبات القراءة والكتابة في الوقت المطلوب.

2. بوسع الطلبة المشاركة في النقاش الصفي والتفكير النقدي.

3. بوسع الطلبة التصرف بمسؤولية وأخلاقية في تنفيذ المشاريع الفردية والجماعية.

4. لدى الطلبة المهارات الضرورية للتواصل والاستماع، وتقويم نقاط الضعف والقوة عندما يعملون كأعضاء في فريق جماعي.

(ب) أساليب تقويم مهارات الطلبة التواصلية والقدرة على تحمل المسؤولية.

(1) تعكس المساهمة الصفية قدرة الطلبة على مواكبة جدول القراءة.

(2) تعكس علامات الاختبارات الفصلية ونهاية العام على جمع المعلومات وتحليلها.

(3) تقويم الأستاذ لأداء الطالب وجديته أثناء ساعات التدريس والمتابعة.

 

د. تقنية جمع المعلومات والمهارات العددية

(1) ينبغي تعليم الطالب على كيفية استخدام الدوريات العلمية وقواعد المعلومات.

(2) ينبغي تشجيع الطلبة على الاستخدام المكثف للمعلومات الموجودة على الشبكة العالمية للمعلومات.

هـ . جدول تقويم الطالب أثناء الفصل الدراسي:

هناك اختباران فصليان زنة كل واحد 20 درجة، واختبار نهائي بزنة 50 درجة، و 10 درجات للمشاركة الصفية والمواظبة والحضور.
