Course Title: Linguistics I

Level 3     Credit Hours: 3

Course Description: This course aims to introduce students to the origin of language and the essential principles of the study of language as well as its different aspects including phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. The course focuses on the basic terminological conventions and precise definitions in order to prepare students for future study of advanced branches of linguistics. The course is mainly theoretical and partially practical.

Grading System:

·         Two mid-term exams (2x15) = 30 marks

·         Five quizzes (2x5)= 10 marks

·         Final exam= 60 marks
