503 Phys  1+1          2 Credit hours

This is an introductory course to be taken by all students doing the MSc program in the Department.  It is taught in a special way where all lectures are seminar style such that the students are epected to show maximum interactive response to the subjects under discussion.  Course cotents are diverse with no single theme. The only unifying factor in this course is that it serves a  general training goal where the tudents are to obtain maximum proficiency in handling data acquired during their lab and research work.  A companion trainingg program is undertaken by all students where the students learn how to use an intermediate level mathematical analysis package ( MatLab).   Students are also expected topresent a short review of   general physics pertaining to their interest in thesis registration for the MSc program

471 Phys         Solid State Physics   3+0 

      This is an introductory course in solid state physics presenting all of the issues dealt with  in a start up course in this field.   Crystal structures,  Types of solids,  XRD as a means of understanding solids and their properties, thermal, electrial and other properties of solids are all dealt wit in a bsic manner.

       Two midsessional exams and a final exam are used to asses the performance of the course participants.
