Course Description

 

(PREP 511) Introduction to Linguistics (2 hrs).

            In this course, students receive an introduction to linguistics, including a survey of the different levels, methodologies and sub-fields of modern linguistics. In addition the student is acquainted with some traditional linguistic studies.

 

(RPRE 512) Arabic Phonology (2hrs)

            In this course, students are presented with an introduction to phonetics, including Arab's contributions in this field, as well as a detailed study of the Arabic sound system and related phonetic phenomena.

 

 

(PREP 514) Methods of teaching Arabic (3hrs)

            In this course, students are presented with the modern theories of teaching foreign languages, with emphasis on the methods of teaching the Arabic language skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing) and components (Sounds, Vocabulary, and Grammar).

 

 

(PREP 516) Second Language Acquisition (2 hrs)

            This course presents the important theories in the field of second language acquisition, the variables affecting the acquisition and the differences between first and second language acquisition.

 

 

(PREP 518)  Practicum (3 hrs)

            This course provides students with real experience in teaching Arabic, including preparation of lesson plans, evaluation of learners, testing language skills and utilization of teaching aids.

 

 

(PREP 523) Research in Applied Linguistics (2 hrs)

            In this course, students are theoretically and practically introduced to principles of conducting and evaluating studies, articles and reports in the field of applied linguistics.
