The study has as objective to pinpoint the most important training needs of the literacy and adult education teachers in terms of knowledge, skills and directional aspect, identification of the most important problems confronting training of the literacy and adults’ education teachers in Riyadh city, and identifying effects of the study variables (age, qualification, experience and training) in determination of the literacy and adults’ education teachers needs.
The researcher adopted a random and group sample composed of (210) teacher. To achieve the study objectives, the researcher designed a questionnaire addressed to the sample. The study reached detailed findings as follows:
* The most important training needs for the study sample in the knowledge aspect.
Identify the appropriate adults’ educational aids; be aware of the regulative and executives bylaws of the literacy in Saudi Arabia, and knowledge of the continued education and related objectives and applications.
* The main training needs of the sample in skillful aspect.
Selection and utilization of adults’ education methods, selection of the adults evaluation methods, set up and utilization of educational materials, field visits to the literacy centers, consolidating inter-adults relationship, encouraging adults to overcome fear, failure and shame in confrontation. Diagnose learners’ problems and helping them in providing solutions.
* The most important training needs of the study sample in directional aspect:
According due care to the appropriate teaching steps, willingness to be convicted that adults have the ability to learn, according particular importance to adults needs and the organic features of the aged individuals.
* Important problems in training literacy and adult education teachers
Increase of the trainees’ number, insufficiency of the trainers, shortness of the training period, inadequacy of the training abilities, absence of encouraging material motivations, non- preparation of the lessons prior to the lecture, non- convenience of the lecture timing with the trainers circumstances, insufficiency of due care regarding the trainers follow-up, neglecting utilization of the educational materials, lack of parking places for the trainers and trainees vehicles and lack of books and notes on revision of the lectures.
* Effect of the study variables:
The statistical analysis showed that the stated study variable has effects on determination of sample requirements regarding some of the knowledge and skill aspects sentences. Yet the variables have no important effect in determination of the sample requirements regarding the directional aspect sentences.
