The Abbasid History
(132- 656AH /750- 1258AD)

The aim of this course is to provide the students with adequate knowledge about the Abbasid revolution (132 AH 750AD) with special focus on the most important factors which helped the Abbsids to gain power and throw down the umayyad regime. The course will shed light on the establishment of the new Abbaid capital, Baghdad and its cultural role. Also the students will be furnished with essential information regarding the epoch of the first eight Abbasid caliphs (132- 232AH). After this period, The Abbasids power became very loose and so weak. Therefore, The foreign races took over the rule in Baghdad for lengthy period of time as following:
1 - The Turks (232- 334AH/ 847- 946AD).
2 - The Bayids (334- 447AH/ 946- 1055AD).
3 - The Seljuks (447- 656AH/ 1258AD).
Finally, the Mongols invaded Baghdad (656AH/ 1258AD) and it was the end of the caliphate.
