Rad 453 : Radiation Protection

Course Description:

 The course introduces students to the principles of radiation biology, the effects of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation on biological tissues at the cellular level and factors contributing to cell response to radiation. The course will also expose students to the international radiation protection units, regulations, and recommendations for patient, medical staff and to the general public

Course content:

1-Introduction to radiation interaction with matter

2- Introduction to radiation biology

3- Radiation protection from ionizing radiation

4- Radiation protection in diagnostic imaging

5- Radiation protection in radiation therapy

6- Safety and protection from non-ionizing radiation

7- International regulatory bodies (ICRU, ICRP, NCRP..) units,

 regulations and recommendations.

  Radiation Protection in Medical Radiography, Sherer, Fifth Edition.
