To enable students to understand the fundamental concepts of the field of audiology and to understand various methods of audiometric assessment and the interpretation of hearing test results.

 

Course Description:

 

An introduction to the field of Audiology : hearing acoustics, decibel scale, theories of hearing; basic pure tone and speech audiometric procedures; pathologies of the auditory system.

Course Objectives:

 

To make the student clinically competent in the diagnosis and treatment of speech and language disorders in children.

 

Course Description:

 

Survey of the fundamental types and natures of language disorders in children. Emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment of developmental language disorders, therapeutic procedures and observation of clinical sessions.

Course Objectives:

 

To acquaint students with the function of the diagnostic test battery in site of lesion testing.

 

Course Description:

 

Review of the administration and interpretation of differential diagnostic techniques of identification of lesions of the entire auditory system. Emphasis on audiological and etiological rehabilitative procedures.

Course Title: Articulation Disorders

Prerequisites : None

 

Course Objectives:

 

To introduce student to the disorders of speech sound production and phonological disorders of speech sound production and phonological disorders in children and adults.

 

Course Description:

 Study of the nature of different types of speech disorders in children and adults. A survey of basic theories, assessment procedures and their implication for planning and implementing treatment.

Course Title: Pediatric Audiology

Credit hours: 2  + 1  = 3

Prerequisites : RHS 471

 

Course Objectives:

 

To introduce students to auditory problems specific to young children; to acquaint students with evaluation and treatment techniques.

 

 

Course Description:

 

Examination of methods of detection, measurement and management of auditory problems in infants and young children. Emphasis on diagnostic techniques specific to young children and the interpretation of results.

Course Title: Fluency Disorders

Prerequisites : None

 

Course Objectives:

 

To understand the critical theories and viewpoints of fluency disorders, their diagnosis and treatment.

 

 

Course Description:

 

Study the development of normal fluency v. non –fluency, in addition to the nature, etiology, theories, classification and prognosis indicators of fluency disorders. Overview of formal and informal assessment, treatment and counseling procedures.

Course Title: Introduction To Hearing Aids

Course Objectives:

 

To acquaint students with the function and maintenance of hearing aids.

 

Course Description:
