PERIPHERAL & SPINAL LESIONS: DEGENERATING AXONS
C&S fig 10-25 p 308
1.Lesion of Dorsal Root = degenerating axons in segment of cord & ascending axons in Dorsal Column
2.Lesion of Spinal Nerve produces degeneration of peripheral sensory, motor & post-ganglionic sympathetic axons.
3.Lesion of thoracic ventral root = degeneration of somatic motor axons & pre-ganglionoic sympathetic axons
4.Lesion of cervical ventral root = degeneration of somatic motor axons
5.Lesion of descending tracts = degeneration of axons below the level of the lesion & Lesion of ascending tracts = degeneration of axons above the level of the lesion. Spinal Moto-neurons do not degenerate.
