Reconstructed Fast-Spiking Interneuron (Smooth Stellate Neuron) from Rat Somatosensory Barrel Cortex found on Home Page is courtesy of Peter W. Land, PhD, Department of Neurobiology, School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh. Neuron was identified as an inhibitory neuron based on its physiological characteristics and then it was filled intracellularly with Biocytin using a patch-clamp recording technique in a brain slice.
Such neurons are required to keep our excitable brains civilized.
