CEREBROCEREBELLAR LOOP: MASSIVE CONNECTIONS FOR MOTOR SKILL
Cerebral Cortical Inputs to Pontine Nuclei
Pontine Nuclei to Cerebellum
IT should not be difficult to think about the ’cognitive’ role of the cerebellum in primates after seeing this figure.  The extensive input to the cerebrocerebellum from three of four lobes of the cerebral cortex is funneled through the massive pontine nuclei. Evidence to date suggests that the striped light yellow- green areas do NOT project to Pontine Nuclei. Therefore, visual striate and extrastriate areas in the occipital lobe and the inferior temporal cortex have little direct input to the cerebrocerebellar loop. Inferior Prefrontal Areas likewise have little direct impact on the cerebrocerebellum.
